Connect with Facebook
Last reviewed:
Logging in with Facebook works, but it needs more setup than logging in with Instagram: your Instagram account must be linked to your Facebook account or sit in a business portfolio you manage, and depending on your setup Meta asks for a Facebook Page. If you can log in to the Instagram account itself, connect with Instagram instead — no Facebook account or Page needed.
Instagram or Facebook?
| Log in with Instagram | Log in with Facebook | |
|---|---|---|
| Facebook account | Not needed | Needed |
| Facebook Page | Not needed | May be needed, depending on how the account is set up |
| Linking first | Nothing to link | Instagram must be linked in Accounts Center or a business portfolio |
| Good for | Almost everyone | Agencies and teams that manage accounts through Meta Business Suite |
Not sure? Log in with Instagram. It is the shorter path and avoids most errors.
Before you start
- The Instagram account is a professional account (business or creator) with “Allow access to messages” switched on — see “Connect Instagram”.
- The Instagram account is linked to your Facebook account in Accounts Center (Instagram app: ☰ → Accounts Center → Accounts → Add accounts), or it is part of a business portfolio where your Facebook account has full control.
- If Meta asks for a Facebook Page during login, select the Page that belongs to the Instagram account, or link one at business.facebook.com → Settings → Accounts.
Connect in four steps
- 1 Start in DMowl
During onboarding, or under Settings → Instagram, click “Authenticate with Instagram”.
- 2 Choose Facebook
In the Meta login window, pick “Continue with Facebook” and log in.
- 3 Pick portfolio and account
Select the business portfolio and the Instagram account. If Meta lists Pages, keep the one linked to the Instagram account.
- 4 Keep all permissions on
Leave every permission ticked and confirm. Meta sends you back to DMowl.
Common problems
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| The Instagram account isn’t listed | It isn’t linked to your Facebook account and isn’t in a portfolio you manage. Link it in Accounts Center, or log in with Instagram instead. |
| Meta asks for a Page you don’t have | Log in with Instagram instead — that path needs no Page. |
| Connected, but DMs don’t arrive | Check “Allow access to messages” in the Instagram app, then click “Reconnect” in Settings → Instagram. If it still fails, disconnect and connect again with Instagram. |
| Client account (agency) | Create a separate DMowl account for the client in the account switcher. Connect it with a Facebook login that has access to the client’s business portfolio, or let the client connect with their own Instagram login. |
Questions? Answers.
Is logging in with Facebook less secure?
No. Both logins happen on Meta’s own pages and DMowl never sees a password. Facebook simply needs more accounts linked together.
Can I switch from a Facebook to an Instagram login later?
Yes. Disconnect under Settings → Instagram and connect again with Instagram. Automations, contacts and history stay.
