ChatGPT does not post content, like posts or follow people. DMowl only uses Instagram’s official messaging and comment API.

Connect ChatGPT to Instagram in four steps

   Connect Instagram to DMowl

   Create a free DMowl account and connect your Instagram professional account. This is the bridge ChatGPT talks to.

   Turn on developer mode

   In ChatGPT open Settings → Apps & Connectors → Advanced settings and switch on Developer mode. It is available on the ChatGPT plans that offer custom connectors.

   Add DMowl as a connector

   Back in Apps & Connectors click Create. Name: DMowl. MCP server URL: https://dmowl.com/mcp. Authentication: OAuth. Confirm.

   Sign in and allow

   ChatGPT opens a DMowl page. Sign in, choose the Instagram account and click Allow. No API key to copy.

In a new chat, enable the DMowl connector from the tools menu and start with something simple: “Show me my DMowl account and this month’s usage.”

Example: a comment-to-DM funnel in one message

Try this prompt: “Create a comment-to-DM automation for my next reel. Keyword: RECIPE. Reply publicly with a short thank-you, then DM the link https://example.com/recipe with a button. If they don’t click within 2 hours, send one friendly reminder. Show me the draft before activating.”

ChatGPT creates the automation as a draft, explains the trigger and the steps, and waits. Say “activate it” and it goes live. You can open it in the DMowl app at any time and edit it visually.

Safety: what happens before a message goes out

• Every new automation starts as a draft. ChatGPT activates it only when you say so.
• Tools that message real people (sending a campaign, drawing a giveaway) are marked as destructive, so ChatGPT asks for confirmation first.
• Instagram’s rules are enforced on the server: only contacts inside the 24-hour window are messaged, opt-outs are respected and follows are verified.
• You can disconnect ChatGPT any time under Settings → API & MCP in DMowl.
